"But at evening she came all at once to the green lawn where the wretched little hut stood on its hens' legs. The wall around the hut was made of human bones and on its top were skulls. There was a gate in the wall, whose hinges were the bones of human feet and whose locks were jaw-bones set with sharp teeth." -Vasilissa the Beautiful, Russian Wonder Tales |

Baba
Yaga is a dancer-mounted puppet harness created for the show "Sita's
Fire." Her chicken-legged house is a large marionette. Baba Yaga is like that crazy neighbor you really don't want to talk to on Halloween. You just know she's doing magic over there. In a thousand years, she has gathered a thousand secrets. Some say she can boil the sea with a finger's flick. Baba Yaga knows almost everything, but anytime someone asks her a question, she grows one year older. If a hero comes to Baba Yaga for advice, Baba Yaga will probably turn that hero into a loaf of bread. |
